My name is Kiana Fitzgerald. I love music, social media, web design, journalism, photography, teaching, learning and all the in-between. I’m a Texas State University alumna with a bachelor’s in journalism and photography (2011), and a master’s in new media in mass communication (2013). I also hold a Ph.D. in taming afros.
As an undergrad, I was a feature writer for the campus newspaper, and for startup web music zine All Things Lavish. I gained additional experience as a multimedia reporter when covering the SXSW Interactive festival as a grad student. As a photographer, I’ve worked with both traditional and digital media formats. I’ve also had experience with social media strategy, site traffic analytics and web development as an intern with MOSAK Advertising and Insights and HomeAway.com.
As a graduate instructional assistant from 2011-2013, I had the pleasure of interacting with hundreds of undergrads, and personally teaching media writing skills to nearly 75 students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University.
I’m currently working in Washington, D.C. at NPR as an editorial researcher, executive assistant and social media manager.
